Justice Achieved for the Elkhart 4
Thursday February 11, 2016 is the day that justice was achieved for the Elkhart 4. Today Jose Quiroz appeared before an Elkhart judge and his murder conviction was vacated. Jose was then sentenced to 10 years in prison for burglary. With good time credit Jose is expected to be released in 2016 or early 2017.
Jose Quiroz was supported by the office of the Elkhart County Prosecutor in getting the benefits of the recent Indiana Supreme Court ruling vacating the murder convictions of Blake Layman, Levi Sparks and Anthony Sharp.
This is a good day for Jose, Levi, Blake and Anthony and a good day for justice. . . but on good days it is important to remember the bad days and those who lives were changed forever. The actions of the Elkhart 4 in October 2012 must be condemned. Today is a day we remember that Danzele Johnson was killed in October 2012. We must remember that an innocent home-owner has had his privacy and security shattered by the actions of the Elkhart 4. There is no remedy to heal these wound.
Now that the legal battle is over it is time for Jose, Levi, Blake and Anthony to focus on improving their lives. They need to recognize that they have a responsibility to their families and community to live an honest and law abiding life. Many have fought hard for Jose, Levi, Blake and Anthony now it is their turn to show the world that they are deserving of those efforts.
